Still Hope For Philly's Rental Market According To Survey

Despite Philadelphia City Council’s seeming desire to put rental and investment property owners out of business, HAPCO Philadelphia is somewhat heartened by a new rental market study just out.

RentCafe.com tracks the nation’s rental market health and trends and finds Philly’s is still doing okay.

Philadelphia ranks 19th nationwide, surpassing much bigger Northeastern hubs such as the Queens, NY or Manhattan

Here’s what pushed Philadelphia high on the list:

  • Philadelphia listings added to favorites more than quadrupled compared to this time last year.
  • Saved personalized searches for Philadelphia apartments doubled, which indicated a growing interest in finding a home in the city.

Eviction Rate Rises As Pandemic Assistance Runs Out

With rental property owners owed hundreds of thousands of dollars in unpaid rent from the pandemic eviction moratorium, national eviction filings are climbing.

Pandemic financial rental assistance has run out in many states or reallocated to other uses, leaving rental owners around the country little choice but to start eviction proceedings.

HAPCO Philadelphia has always advocated communication, education, and mediation between our members and their tenants.  But when rental owners have large unpaid sums of back rent, owners have little choice but to either sell their rental properties, or file for eviction.

Philly Renames Street In Honor Of A HAPCO Philadelphia Legend: Willie Seward!

He is one of the founding fathers of HAPCO Philadelphia and he's now been honored with a street in his name!

Willie Seward is one of HP's charter members and has been a community advocate for affordable rental housing in the city for decades.

And that community service and dedication has been recognized along with Willie's 95th birthday by the renaming of the 2800-block of North 22nd Street.

In a ceremony and birthday celebration, that North Philadelphia block will forever be known as "Willie Seward Realtist Way!"

Friends, family, and community members gathered to congratulate Willie on 95 amazing years and to celebrate his commitment to preserving low-to-moderate-income housing.

From all of us at HAPCO Philadelphia, a huge congratulations, Happy Birthday, and Thank You for your guidance, dedication, and caring over the years!
