Hapco Philadelphia’s watchdog at the Pennsylvania State Capitol reports that the PA Supreme Court has denied the City of Philadelphia’s request to appeal a Commonwealth court ruling regarding the 2018 property tax reassessment.
That reassessment was solely focused on commercial properties and the court determined that this was illegal and unconstitutional,
The justices found it violates the Pennsylvania and Federal Constitution for uniform and fair assessments, ruling the city can’t single out one property type over another when it undertakes an assessment.
The City of Philadelphia will now have to follow the court’s orders to issue a refund of taxes, interests, and penalties.
