The Philadelphia ban on evictions that was set to expire today has been extended.

Municipal Court President Judge Patrick Dugan has ordered that all residential evictions cease through October 7th.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had already ordered a stop to evictions through the end of the year nationwide based on a tenant’s inability to pay as a result of COVID-19 financial hardships.

But “the unintended consequences of these actions are going to be disastrous,” Hapco Philadelphia Attorney Paul Cohen tells WHYY Radio. Listen to Cohen’s comments on WHYY here.
