Congress has passed the bill, though President Trump is demanding changes to it.

Congress has approved a new stimulus package that includes $25 billion in rent relief and an extension to the CDC’s eviction moratorium through January 31, 2021. That moratorium had been set to expire at the end of this year.

The package is aimed at helping struggling households pay bills related to their past and future rent. The money would be distributed to state and local governments for disbursement.

Meanwhile, a new report from the Urban Institute examines how Black and Hispanic landlords are facing greater struggles caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to the report:

Although only 12 percent of landlords with a mortgage are in forbearance, these landlords are disproportionately Black and Hispanic, reflecting their less stable financial situation compared with white landlords. About 20 percent of Black landlords, 14 percent of Hispanic landlords, and 9 percent of white landlords have at least one mortgage in forbearance.
