The federal government has awarded the City of Philadelphia 863 Emergency Housing Vouchers aimed at preventing homelessness.
The vouchers will work as Housing Choice Vouchers do, where a recipient rents a house or apartment from a private landlord and pays 30 percent of their household income toward the rent. The voucher pays the rest.
The funding comes from the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan, passed in March.
The program will run through the Philadelphia Housing Authority.
