Philadelphia City Council is considering an ordinance to amend its Emergency Housing Protection Act.
The ordinance would keep protections in place to tenants until the end of the year. Similar protections are already in place on the federal level. The bill would also extend the Eviction Diversion Program through June 30, 2020. As pandemic concerns grow, it appears likely that the city amendments will pass.
The ordinance was introduced by Councilmember Helen Gym and sponsored by Councilmembers Kendra Brooks and Jamie Gauthier, all of whom were instrumental in the passage of the EHPA.
